Preventing spam on public forums

Often users on the Internet post spam messages. These messages typically refer to an external website that is selling some product. There are two types of spam messages:

Posted by humans
Posted by a computer program

The system implements a method of image verification to prevent spam posted by a computer program. This image verification technique prompts the user to type a randomly generated number displayed in an image on the screen. Since the number appears as an image using different fonts and angles, a computer program cannot read the value and therefore, won't be able to post a message.

Therefore, If you see spam posted on your forums, you can rest assured that it is posted by someone manually. Since this involves manual work, the number of such spam message will be very small. You can either remove these messages manually or disable anonymous postings on your forum.
